What AI Max controls

AI Max sits inside standard Search campaign settings. It can broaden matching beyond manually selected keywords, produce text variants from approved assets and website content, and choose a landing page that it predicts better matches the query.

Advertisers retain budgets, bids, conversion goals, negative keywords and targeting. Brand inclusion and exclusion lists, term exclusions and reports for generated assets and landing-page routing are intended to make automated decisions inspectable.

Reading the performance claim

Microsoft says advertisers saw at least an 8% conversion increase in early tests. Its footnote describes 44 global advertiser-run A/B experiments from June through August 2026, a spend-weighted uplift near 13.6% and ten experiments with statistically significant positive conversion or value results.

The same evidence means many individual tests did not meet that significance threshold. Aggregated uplift should not be treated as a forecast for a specific account, margin structure, attribution window or conversion-quality standard.

A controlled rollout

Begin with campaigns that have reliable conversion values and landing pages with clear intent. Export the baseline, isolate one change, inspect query and URL reports weekly, and measure qualified revenue rather than raw form fills.
