Map the dependency before choosing a replacement

List every place a model is selected: individual editor preferences, team defaults, custom agents, command-line scripts, API keys and Auto routing. A model name in a user interface can hide a different billing path or host, so record the provider and account boundary as well.

Prioritize workflows that edit code, run commands or touch secrets. A change in instruction following or tool calling matters more there than a small difference in autocomplete style.

Build a representative evaluation set

Choose ten to twenty tasks from recent work: a narrow bug fix, multi-file refactor, test generation, repository search, dependency update and code review. Freeze the starting commit and validation commands, then run each candidate under comparable context, tool and reasoning settings.

Score correctness, unnecessary changes, test pass rate, reviewer time, latency and cost. Cursor's documentation notes that provider pricing affects included usage, so a quality comparison without consumption data is incomplete.

Migrate in stages

Move low-risk exploration first, then directed edits, and only later autonomous or long-running agents. Keep branch protection, review gates and sandbox boundaries unchanged while the model changes; changing both capability and permissions makes failures difficult to diagnose.

Use a documented fallback for critical repositories and export the evaluation record. The AINewsInu homepage and Features hub will track transition details as the proposed November date approaches.
