One underlying model, two deployment boundaries

Anthropic has released Claude Fable 5.1 for advanced coding and knowledge work alongside Claude Mythos 5.1 for restricted cybersecurity and biology research. The company says the products share an underlying model but are deployed with different safeguards and access conditions.

That makes the launch more than a routine refresh. Fable 5.1 limits penetration testing, exploit generation, binary vulnerability scanning and some dual-use biology work. Mythos 5.1 is available through trusted-access programs with reduced restrictions for approved research.

Fable 5.1 focuses on long-running work

Anthropic describes Fable 5.1 as a model for projects that take hours and span multiple applications. Stated uses include working through backlogs, handling Slack requests through Claude Tag, operating a browser, running as a managed agent, reviewing codebases and completing multi-stage professional deliverables.

It is available to Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise users and through the Claude Platform, AWS, Google Cloud and Microsoft Foundry. Anthropic lists API pricing at $10 per million input tokens and $50 per million output tokens, with cache reads at $0.25 per million tokens. US-only inference carries a 1.1-times multiplier.

Mythos 5.1 remains behind a gate

Mythos 5.1 is intended for vetted cyber defenders and life-sciences researchers. Anthropic says its invite-only Life Sciences Verification Program provides reduced biology safeguards, while the Cyber Verification Program will add Mythos access for defensive work. Availability is currently limited to selected U.S. organizations.

The restricted model starts at the same listed token prices, but its default 30-day data-retention policy for safety monitoring is an important procurement consideration. Organizations must weigh the capability benefit against eligibility, monitoring and data-handling requirements.

Safeguards are becoming a product dimension

Anthropic says Fable's new biology safeguards intervene on benign requests 85% less often than the safeguards launched with Fable 5, while still routing some dual-use questions and blocking higher-risk cyber activity. These company claims need system-card context and independent testing where possible.

The release shows frontier vendors treating capability access, monitoring and refusal behavior as configurable product boundaries rather than one universal safety layer. That may widen useful access, but it also makes procurement and governance more complex.

What teams should evaluate

Teams should benchmark Fable 5.1 on their own long-running tasks, including recovery from failed steps, test quality, communication during execution, token use and human-review time. Published scores cannot represent every repository's conventions or a company's tool permissions.

Security and life-sciences organizations face an added question: whether they can meet restricted-access conditions while maintaining their own approval, logging and incident-response controls. AINewsInu will continue tracking the model family from the homepage as Anthropic publishes more evidence and expands access.
